Nina Alvarez is a published fiction writer and professional copywriter with no formal schooling in the visual arts. However, she has taught herself much about art history, theory, and creation through years of visiting art museums, discussing art, and trying her hand at different media. Her favorite medium is photography, which she has studied with Philadelphia's fine art photographer Rick Wright. She is currently developing a video installation that she plans to show at the Plastic Club in Philadelphia in 2009. The Plastic Club is also where Nina went to figure drawing workshops and created the original sketch for "Her Love Had Him," which won a juror's award in one of their shows. Nina works for Artspan.com developing web content and and doing online marketing. She creates video poems that can be seen at http://oneminutepoems.wordpress.com, writes an art blog at http://philthyart.com. Nina has an MA in English and a BA in English from the Univeristy at Albany. She taught college-level English in the Finger Lakes for three years before moving to Philadelphia to become a copyeditor, copywriter and designer. She has run the small publishing company Inconundrun Press since 2005. She currently lives near the beach in St. Petersburg, FL, works from home, and feels less and less guilty for being a hermit-nomad.
